Colour Day

PHHS Colour DayThe school was a splash of colour as the annual Colour Day 2009 took place. Colour Day is an annual tradition here at Port Hacking High like no other high school has ever seen. Each Sports House group determines a theme for the year and students are encouraged to dress up in their House colour and represent their House theme.

Colour Day is the most anticipated and exciting day in the school calendar with all students going all out to be the best dressed on the day. Local craft shops, St Vincent de Paul shops, mums wardrobes and old kids dress up boxes are inundated with students trying to find the perfect outfit.

This year each House had a very creative theme with Burraneer House (green) tackling the jungle so there were many leopard print natives running around and even a gorilla or two. Gunnamatta House (blue) were pirates of the sea with boats and treasure boxes full of jewels on display. Jibbon House (red) had an American College Pep Rally with cheerleaders, grid iron players and marching bands and Yowie House (yellow) decided that a Mexican approach would have the right touch with students snoozing under sombreros and even real life size tacos were walking around.

The school day concluded with a competition where each House performs their specially prepared House song and the school song is sung. A panel of judges then determines which house is the Colour Day Champions of 2009 based on their enthusiasm, house and school spirit and the effort that students in each House apply to their theme. This year the native jungle dwellers of Burraneer House claimed the title.
