From the Principal
We are looking forward to a great year in 2009, our fiftieth anniversary. The school applauded 197 new year 7's at assembly on Wednesday, and we also welcomed our new staff members. They are: Mrs Murphy, Head Teacher Home Economics; Ms Worsley, Ms Stanborough, and Ms Burgess in Science, Ms Vasey in History, Ms Lord in Home Economics and Ms Klinkon, one of our school counsellors. As always we are fortunate to recruit highly qualified and skilled staff to Port Hacking, and I am sure
they will make a strong contribution to their faculties and to the school.
I thank all those parents who expressed their sympathy and condolences on the deaths of Greg Rennie and Jeanette Child in December last year. Both were well loved teachers and colleagues, and I was proud that at their funerals so many current students, past students, teachers and parents attended to show their respect. Both the Rennie and the Child families have expressed their appreciation of the support they received from Port Hacking in their time of sorrow.
Our Year 12 students excelled themselves last year. Forty three results in the 90's, 171 results in the 80's, and while Mr Freney is in the process of phoning all students to check their UAI's, it seems clear that Si Chen, with 98.95, should be our dux. Si is a brilliant mathematician, scoring 98% in Maths extension 1 and 96 in Maths extension 2. I will publish a more complete set of results when we have all the information.
Don't forget, the final bell for all classes is 3.05, although we will let Year 7 out at 3pm for the next two weeks so they can beat the rush.
